Chapter

A literary author website for a novelist, set like a book jacket, with a first-chapter reader, rolling tour dates and book club guides.

About this template

Chapter is a complete website for Clemency Thorne, a fictional crime and historical novelist from Canterbury with a new Esme Lark mystery on the way. Every book has its own SVG jacket; the home page counts down to publication day and switches itself to "out now", the backlist filters by series and shows the reading order, and each book page has a first-chapter reader that remembers your place. Events roll forward so the demo never goes stale, and there are book club guides to download, a press kit with copy buttons and a contact form that routes to the agent, publicist or rights team.

Features

  • New-release hero with a live countdown in UK time that switches to an "out now" state on publication day, and pre-order links to every bookshop
  • Book jackets drawn as SVG from each book's colours and motif, downloadable from the press page
  • Backlist filtered by series or standalone, shown in series reading order or newest first, with shareable ?show= and ?order= links
  • Single book pages from one data list (?id=): blurb, formats with ISBNs and prices, reviews, buy links and the rest of the series
  • First-chapter reader with page turns, arrow keys, three text sizes and your place remembered in localStorage, plus a "continue reading" bookmark on the home page
  • Events in Europe/London time that roll forward and hide themselves once over, with in-person/online filters, the visitor's own time for online events and .ics calendar files
  • Book club guides with themes and discussion questions, downloadable as a text file or a printable SVG page
  • Press kit with copy-to-clipboard biographies and emails, a fact sheet and a generated press release
  • Contact form that routes by topic (agent, publicity, rights, events, readers) with its own fields per topic, plus validated newsletter sign-ups
  • Paper-grain background, fleuron ornaments, drop caps, accessible mobile menu, skip link, scroll reveals and reduced-motion support
