Now booking from November

Pictures with a little ink on their elbows.

I’m Pipa Valdespino, an illustrator in Louisville, Kentucky. I draw for magazines, picture books, packaging and posters, and print a lot of it myself on a two-drum riso at Pomelo Press, my studio on Frankfort Ave.

What I do

Four kinds of job, one way of drawing

Every picture is drawn as separate ink plates, the way a riso prints. It keeps the color bold, the files simple for printers, and the work looking like it was made by a person.

  • Editorial

Covers, spots and openers for magazines and weeklies, usually turned around in two weeks.

    3 projects in editorial
  • Picture books

Thirty-two pages of night skies, buses and mice, from thumbnails to color separations.

    3 projects in picture books
  • Packaging

Tins, labels and wrappers that sit together on a shelf and stand out across a room.

    3 projects in packaging
  • Posters

Gig, film and fair posters, printed here in editions of a few hundred or sent to your printer.

    3 projects in posters

How a commission runs

From a brief to print-ready plates

You tell me about the job, I send a fee and a timeline, and we start on a Monday. New projects can start from Monday, November 16.

What clients say

Pipa sends sketches that already have an opinion. We ran the first idea she drew, which has never happened before.
