StrengthR., 44 · 1:1 with Ffion · 2× a week · 16 weeks
From nervous in the weights room to a 110 kg deadlift
Starting point
Had never lifted a barbell and found gyms intimidating. Wanted to feel strong and stop putting his back out moving furniture.
What we did
Hinge patterns with a kettlebell first, then the trap bar. Small, steady jumps in weight, logged every session.
Where they are now
Deadlifting 110 kg for a single with good form, and training on his own on Fridays.
“I’d never touched a barbell. Now Tuesday mornings are the best part of my week.”
StrengthJ., 29 · Small-group strength · 2× a week · 12 weeks
Zero to twelve full push-ups
Starting point
Couldn’t do a full push-up and wanted upper-body strength for climbing with friends.
What we did
Incline push-ups on a lowering bar height, rows to balance it out and a short home routine.
Where they are now
Twelve full push-ups in one set, and her first unassisted chin-up.
“The group made me turn up even on the days I didn’t feel like it.”
SportM., 36 · Sport block with Yusuf · 2× a week · 12 weeks
Five minutes off a parkrun time, without more running
Starting point
Stuck at around 31 minutes for 5 km for two years, with niggly knees whenever mileage went up.
What we did
Two strength sessions a week, plyometrics and a simple speed session. Weekly mileage stayed the same.
Where they are now
A 26:28 parkrun at week 12 and a calf-strength routine he still does twice a week.
“The strength work did what extra miles never did. And my knees feel great.”
Fat lossS., 52 · Small group + nutrition add-on · 6 months
Doubled her daily steps, one small habit at a time
Starting point
Busy job, low energy by mid-afternoon and a history of diets that didn’t last.
What we did
Two group sessions a week and one nutrition habit a fortnight: protein at breakfast, a lunchtime walk, a regular bedtime.
Where they are now
Averaging over 9,000 steps a day, sleeping better and lifting more than she thought she could.
“No diet, no drama. Just habits I could actually keep.”
MobilityD., 58 · Movement & mobility with Yusuf · weekly · 12 weeks
Touching his toes again after twenty years at a desk
Starting point
Stiff hips and hamstrings, and a back that felt tight after long days at the desk.
What we did
A movement screen, a ten-minute morning routine and strength work through his new range.
Where they are now
Reaching 3 cm past his toes, gardening for whole afternoons and walking 10 km at weekends.
“Yusuf’s mobility work changed how my whole day feels.”
PostnatalL., 34 · Return to training with Ffion · 18 weeks
Strong enough for the toddler years
Starting point
Started 14 weeks after her baby was born, once her GP had said she could exercise. Wanted to feel like herself again.
What we did
Breathing and core foundations, then squats, carries and rows for everyday lifting, alongside her women’s health physio’s advice.
Where they are now
Goblet squatting 16 kg and carrying a car seat up two flights of stairs with ease.
“I never felt rushed back into anything. Calm, kind and properly expert.”
