About us

One family. Six bays. Since 1994.

Neville Mottram opened the doors with one ramp and a borrowed compressor. His daughter Bethan runs it now, the same way: fixed prices, straight answers, and the old parts in a bag if you want them.

How we work

The rules on the workshop wall

  1. 01

    Price first

Every job gets a written price before a spanner comes out. The website prices are the prices.

  2. 02

    Call, then fix

Found something else? You get a call, a photo and a fixed price. No answer, no extra work.

  3. 03

    Show the part

Old parts go back in your boot in a labelled bag, unless you tell us to recycle them.

  4. 04

    Fix, don’t swap

If a weld or a single part does the job safely, that’s what we quote, not the whole assembly.

The team

Who’ll look after your car

Seven people, 140-odd years on the tools between them, and one shared rule about tidy benches.

  • Bethan Mottram

    Owner · Master technician

Took over from her dad in 2016. Still on the tools three days a week, mostly on the cars nobody else wants.

  • Neville Mottram

    Founder · Saturday MOTs

Opened Bellcrank in 1994. “Semi-retired”, which means Saturdays in the MOT lane and opinions on everything else.

  • Ade Ogunleye

EV & hybrid lead · IMI Level 3

Trained to work on high-voltage systems. Writes the battery health reports and answers every “will it last?” question.

  • Dariusz Wróbel

    Diagnostics technician

Oscilloscope in one hand, wiring diagram in the other. Finds the faults that make other garages shrug.

  • Kieran Doherty

    MOT tester

Runs the MOT lane Monday to Friday and will happily show you exactly what an advisory means.

  • Lorna Fairclough

    Service desk

Answers the phone, books you in, makes the calls about extra work, and knows where every courtesy car is.

  • Mollie Szabo

    Apprentice technician

Second year of a Level 3 apprenticeship with the local college. Does a very neat brake job.

  • Could be you

Qualified technician looking for a garage that doesn’t rush? Say hello.

Service history

The logbook

  1. 1994

Neville rents one bay in Spinners Yard, a former carpet-yarn mill. One ramp, one borrowed compressor, a hand-painted sign.

  2. 2003

The MOT lane opens after a year of paperwork. Neville tests every car himself for the first five years.

  3. 2011

We take over Unit 4 next door: six bays, a customer lounge and the first courtesy car.

  4. 2016

Bethan becomes owner. Fixed prices go on the wall and on the website, and they stay there.

  5. 2021

Ade and Bethan complete high-voltage training; the yard gets a charger and an insulated EV bay.
