No. The free plan works without an account. You only need one if you want to back up your diary or share a Family plan.

iPhone with iOS 16 or later, and Android phones with Android 10 or later. There’s no tablet layout yet, but the app runs on iPad and Android tablets.

Yes. Free sounds are built in, and Premium sounds can be downloaded. The alarm, routines and diary never need a connection.

On Premium, start one sound, then tap “Add to mix” on up to two more. Each has its own volume slider. Save the mix to find it on the Tonight screen.

Yes. Set the sleep timer to “All night”. Otherwise the sound fades out slowly when the timer ends.

Some Android battery savers close apps in the background. In your phone’s battery settings, set Nightjar to “Unrestricted”.

In your wake window, Nightjar uses the microphone to listen for movement such as turning over. When it notices you stirring, it starts a gentle sound. If it hears nothing, it rings at your set time. Audio is analysed on the phone and never recorded or uploaded.

Yes. Alarms play even in silent mode and Do Not Disturb, as long as the volume isn’t at zero.

On the bedside table, plugged in, within about a metre of you. Under the pillow muffles the microphone.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google. On iPhone go to Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android open Google Play, Payments and subscriptions.

Refunds are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their policies. If something went wrong, contact us too and we’ll help where we can.

Open Settings, then Family, and send an invite link. Each person gets their own sounds, alarm and diary.

No. Nightjar is a wellbeing app to help you relax and build routines. It doesn’t diagnose, treat or monitor any condition. If you have persistent sleep problems, speak to a doctor.

No. The smart alarm listens for movement in your wake window only, analyses it on your phone and keeps nothing.

Your diary lives on your phone, so deleting the app removes it. If you made an account, go to Settings, Account, Delete account, and we erase your backup within 30 days.
