The fire’s lit from noon most days

Inn with rooms · Kirkby Malham · since 1764

A good fire, a proper pint and a bed in the Dales.

The Fallow Hart is an old drovers’ inn on the green at Kirkby Malham: six rooms, a stone-flagged bar, Yorkshire cooking and Malham Cove an easy walk from the door. Dogs and muddy boots welcome.

Today at the Hart

Open the door, mind the step, find a seat by the fire.

Two hundred and sixty years of drovers, farmers, walkers and their dogs have worn the flags smooth. We pour Dales ales, cook what the farms around us raise, and light the fire every day from October to April.

Dogs welcome

The best spot by the fire is usually taken by a dog

Four of our rooms take up to two dogs, there’s a paw wash by the porch and a jar of biscuits behind the bar. Dogs are welcome in the bar and the snug; the dining room is dog-free for those who’d rather.

From the guest book

Kind words, mostly about the pie

We came for the walking and stayed an extra night for the steak pie. The dog has asked to go back.
Hannah and Biscuit, from Leeds
Proper pub downstairs, a quiet, spotless room upstairs and a breakfast that got us up Gordale Scar.
Tom R., walking the Pennine Way
The folk session on Thursday was the best night out we’ve had in years. Nobody minded my terrible tin whistle.
