The fire’s lit from noon most days

Dogs welcome · Good to know

Bring the dog. Bring the muddy boots.

Most of our guests come to walk, and plenty bring a four-legged companion. Here’s how dogs fit in at the Hart, and everything else that’s useful to know before you come.

Dogs at the Hart

  • Four dog-friendly rooms

The Snug, the Hayloft, Shepherd’s Room and the Old Dairy take up to two dogs. Beck View and the Cove Suite stay dog-free for guests with allergies.

  • £15 per dog per stay

That covers a deep clean after you leave. It’s added to your price when you check a stay.

  • Welcome downstairs too

Dogs are welcome in the bar and the snug. The dining room is dog-free, so ask for a table by the fire in the bar instead.

  • Never alone in the room

Please don’t leave dogs alone in the rooms. We know a dog-sitter in the village who takes them walking for the afternoon.

Waiting for your dog

  • A bed and a blanket

And old towels for wet days, so yours stay dry.

  • Bowls and a biscuit

Water bowls in the room and the bar; biscuits in the jar.

  • A paw wash

A warm tap and a brush by the porch for muddy legs.

  • Walks for every dog

Easy riverside rambles to big fell days.

Easy walks for dogs

On the fells: sheep graze everywhere and ground-nesting birds breed from March to July, so keep dogs on a lead near livestock and on the moor.

Questions we’re asked at the bar

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is from 3pm to 9pm and check-out is by 11am. If you’re arriving after 9pm, tell us and the night porter will have your key. You’re welcome to leave bags and boots with us and walk after you check out.

Is there parking?

Yes, twelve free spaces behind the inn, plus one electric car charger (7 kW) you can book at the bar. The lane is narrow; take the second gate.

Is there Wi-Fi and phone signal?

Wi-Fi reaches every room and the garden. Phone signal in the dale is patchy: you’ll usually get a bar or two by the front window and on the green.

Are the rooms accessible?

The Old Dairy is step-free with a wet room and a wide door. Shepherd’s Room is on the ground floor with one small step. The other rooms are up a steep, characterful staircase. Ring us and we’ll talk it through.

Are children welcome?

Very. The Cove Suite and the Old Dairy sleep four, we have a travel cot and high chairs, and children’s portions of most dishes. The bar is family-friendly until 9pm.

What if we need to cancel?

Cancel free of charge up to 7 days before you arrive. After that we charge the first night, unless we can re-let the room, in which case we refund it.

Do you cater for allergies?

Yes. Tell us when you book and when you order. The menus mark vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes, and the kitchen has the full allergen list for every dish.

Can we hire the inn for a celebration?

The barn seats forty for a meal and the whole inn can be taken for a weekend. Send us a note through the contact page.
